Lucia Trilla-Fuertes

My career is focused on the development of computational analyses for high-dimensional omics data and their application in the field of Precision Oncology. This activity has given rise to 26 publications in international specialized journals, twelve of them as first author, two patents, and one European project. I did my PhD thesis in Biomedica Molecular Medicine SL, a spin-off of Hospital Universitario La Paz, thanks to a Spanish Economy Ministry Grant (Doctorado Industrial DI-15-07614). This culminated in my thesis “Metabolic computational models in breast cancer”, defended in 2019 at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, and graded as “cum laude” with “Industrial Mention”. After that, I have been R&D Coordinator at Biomedica Molecular Medicine for two years without abandoning my interest in research, participating in several projects with the Medical Oncology Service and the Molecular Oncology Lab of Hospital La Paz, and with the Medical Oncology Service of Hospital Doce de Octubre. In September 2019, I expanded my training in proteomics experimental procedures and data analysis as a Visiting Scientist in the Proteomics Unit of Functional Genomics Center of Zurich. This stay gave rise to a stable collaboration and several joint projects. Currently, I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Molecular Oncology Lab of Hospital La Paz, focused on the analysis and biological interpretation of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics data in a clinical context, developing new tools that allow effective analysis of this type of data and its fast translation to the clinical setting. I am currently PI of two projects, one from Grupo Español de Cáncer Digestivo and the other one from The European Proteomics Infrastructure Consortium providing access (EPIC-XS) funded by the Horizon 2020 program of the European Union, to study the role of genomic duplications related to prognosis in anal carcinoma, and to seek for therapeutic targets in high-risk patients with anal carcinoma using proteomics respectively. I am also co-director of a thesis focused on the study of the role of the microbiota in tumor progression in colorectal cancer and I am supervising the training of an undergraduate student.
