By a combination of genetic and pharmacological ablation, our previous investigations established a role of 5-HT via 5-HT2B receptors in periphery.
More recently, we described a role of 5-HT via 5-HT2B receptors in the behavioral and biochemical responses to drug of abuse and antidepressants, and discovered that microglia mainly express this serotonin receptor.
Together, these studies should allow to define precisely the role of serotonin and microglia in 5-HT neuronal connectivity and activity.
