He has published more than 350 scientific papers, and is emeritus editor-in-chief of the journal ‘Osteoarthritis and Cartilage’.

Stefan Lohmander is past president of the Osteoarthritis Research Society International. He has received the OARSI Award for Clinical Research, the Orthopedic Research Society USA Steindler Award for significant contributions to the understanding of musculoskeletal disease and injury, the Marshall Schiff Award from the American College of Rheumatology to address the interface between rheumatology and orthopedics, and the Bone and Joint Decade 2000-2010 Award for Osteoarthritis Research. In 2017 he received the OARSI Lifetime Achievement Award for exceptional contributions to the advancement of knowledge in the field of osteoarthritis.
