个人简介
My long term interest in Haematology and research involves the organization of standard clinical practice that focuses on translation of work from the laboratory to the patient and eventually to the community. My academic training and research experience have provided me with an excellent background in both clinical Haematology and its laboratory aspect, along with opportunity to train and work with senior researchers in the field of clinical and translational research. As an intern I was trained by both local and expatriate physicians that laid the foundation for the hunger of solid research and collaboration. During my postgraduate specialty training in Haematology and Blood Transfusion at National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, I did a preceptorship time with Prof Sulaimon Akanmu of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, who exposed me to good clinical and laboratory research with special interest on sickle cell disease and haemophilia.
I am the Chair, Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences Kaduna State University Research unit. Management committee member, Sickle Cell Cohort Research Foundation (www.scorecharity.com) with over 7 years of collaboration with Prof Baba Inusa in SCORE projects which include a collaborative study between SCORE, my centre Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital (BDTH) – Kaduna State University (KASU), and University of Udine, Italy, and the Lead for the Kaduna site EU Marie-Curie Skłodowska funded H2020 Project (n. 824021) African Research and Innovative Initiative for Sickle Cell Education (ARISE). I am Principal Investigator and Laboratory Lead in a number of local and international research collaborations; The Kaduna State Site American Society of Hematology (ASH) supported Consortium on newborn screening of sickle cell disease in Africa – CONSA, the Nationwide multi-centre study of transition to adult centred sickle cell disease care in Nigeria (LREC/06/10/875), and the NIH funded ‘’The Sickle Pan-African Research Consortium-Nigeria Network SPARC-NEt’’ (NHREC/01/01/2007-24/11/2017). I am a member steering committee of the Zambia CONSA project and SCORE_BINGHAM University Teaching Hospital Integrated Sickle Cell Disease Management Program. I got clinical and laboratory training on diagnosis of rare blood disorders in Africa (Haemoglobinopathy and Haemophilia) between 2017 and 2018 with Prof Johnny Mahlangu at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and School of Pathology, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa under the NovoNordisk Haemophilia Fellowship program and the ASH Visitor Training Program. An ASH global capacity building showcase awardee for 2018 with Baba Inusa as mentor, and for 2019, with Prof Johnny Mahlangu of the School of Pathology, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa who is our mentor (The BDTH Haemophilia Treatment Centre – HTC) on design and development of clinical trials with the aim of enhancing my capacity towards independent research and leadership. I am a British society for haematology (BSH) global haematology scholarship awardee for a pilot study on Delivery of Comprehensive Multi-Disciplinary Service to the Pregnant Sickle Cell Disease Patients in Kaduna State Nigeria, a recent Pfizer Pharmaceutical grant award for a community study on ”Improving the evidence base for Community Implementation of a Haemophilia Treatment and Linkage program in Kaduna, Nigeria to Inform a National Program’’ . I am currently the Head of department of Haematology and Blood Transfusion of BDTH and KASU.
