Lance A.M. Benner

Lance A. M. Benner received the A.B. degree in physics from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, in 1987 and the Ph.D. degree in earth and planetary science from Washington University in St. Louis, St. Louis, MO, in 1994. Currently, he is a Research Scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena. He has served in this position since 2003. Prior to that, he was a Scientist from 1998, and a National Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow from 1995. Both of these positions were at the JPL. Prior to work at JPL, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate, Washington University, Seattle, from 1994. He has authored more than 50 papers on asteroids and comets. He specializes in radar imaging of near-Earth and main-belt asteroids using the NSF's Arecibo Observatory (Puerto Rico) and NASA's Goldstone Solar System Radar (California), and he has participated in radar observations of more than 200 near-Earth asteroids. Dr. Benner is a member of the American Astronomical Society (Division for Planetary Sciences), the Meteoritical Society, the American Geophysical Union, and the International Meteor Organization.
