Her research interests are in health services research using large population databases to determine the effects of care delivery on health outcomes in gynecologic malignancies. She is also the Principal Investigator for several trials funded by the US National Cancer Institute. Dr. Gien was awarded the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG) Scholar Investigator Award to become a leader in clinical trial development in gynecologic oncology in the United States. In 2021 she was awarded over $1 million by the Department of Defense in the United States for ovarian cancer research evaluating mechanisms of resistance in PARP-inhibitors in organoid models.
