My research areas are: Materials and Technology, Materials Characterization and Analysis, Materials Selection, Metallurgy, Product Design, Eco-design, Microcapsule Synthesis and Application, Additive Manufacturing, Transdisciplinary Education, Design for Wellbeing, and Biomimetics.
I am a full professor and scientific advisor at the Faculty of Maritime Studies (PFST), University of Split, Croatia, and former full professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Department of Materials Engineering and Postgraduate Program in Design, Porto Alegre - RS, Brazil.
Research collaboration is with the Laboratory of Materials Selection and Design and the Laboratory of Materials Characterization at UFRGS, Brazil.
I received my degree in Metallurgical Engineering from UFRGS (1994), my Master in Science (1998) and my PhD (2004) in Engineering - Materials Science and Technology at the Postgraduate Program in Mining, Metallurgy and Materials at UFRGS. In 2011, I received my PhD in Industrial Design from the University of Split/FESB, Split, Croatia.
During the 15 years of my teaching career, I have taught mainly in 3 undergraduate courses. Two of them at UFRGS - the first one, Materials Engineering, subject Metallic Materials and in the second study program, Product Design, subject Materials and Processes. Since 2020, at the University of Split, Faculty of Maritime Studies (PFST), Marine Engineering course, the subjects taught are Materials Technology and Project. In addition to the PFST, since 2022 I am a member of the Postgraduate Doctoral Study in Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (FESB) of the University of Split. I also taught for 11 years in the Postgraduate Program in Design (Master of Science and Doctorate) at UFRGS, the topics were: Science and Technology of Materials, Advanced Materials, and Coordinator of Teaching Practicum.
At the University of Split I am currently advising 2 PhD dissertations and 1 thesis in the field of materials and technologies in the maritime sector. At UFRGS, I have supervised 13 master's theses, 2 dissertations, and 6 bachelor's theses in materials engineering and design and technology. In addition, I supervised the internship of 6 students who developed their activities in different industries in Brazil. Another task was to supervise 21 students in scientific research - a program developed by Brazilian universities to teach and encourage students to pursue scientific careers.
