Research Interests:

A/Prof Liu’s research aims at uncovering the causes of and developing therapeutics for gastrointestinal diseases and urinary bladder diseases. A/Prof Liu has more than 20 years research experience in inflammatory bowel disease, slow transit constipation, diverticular disease and irritable bowel syndrome. In recent years, her research interests have expanded to include the bladder urothelium function, overactive bladder and bladder inflammation.

Neurochemicals and receptors in the regulation of gastrointestinal function. Role of neuropeptides in gut inflammation; Interactions between prostaglandins and human enteric nervous system; Vanilloid receptors in human bladder: relevance to urge incontinence.
