L. Del Zanna

Luca Del Zanna - Dipartimento di Fisica e Astronomia, Università di Firenze Graduated in Physics (110/110 cum laude) in 1993 with Prof. C. Chiuderi at the University of Florence, with a dissertation on analytical MHD equilibria in the presence of flows. In 1997 he obtained the PhD title in the solar theory group at St. Andrews university (UK) with Prof. A.W. Hood, with a thesis on MHD flows in the solar atmosphere. He worked at the International Space Science Institute in Bern between 1997 and 1998 on models for solar plumes, and later always at the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the Florence University, where he became researcher in 2006 and associate professor in 2018. Scientific interests: - Computational Astrophysics: shock-capturing methods for hyperbolic equations, numerical codes for classical and relativistic magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), methods for solving Einstein equations, methods for dissipation and radiation. - Physics of relativistic plasmas and compact objects: numerical models for pulsar winds and their nebulae, diagnostics for non-thermal radiation, models for magnetized neutron stars in general relativity. - Physics of solar and heliospheric plasmas: models of coronal structures (loops, prominences, plumes), propagation of Alfvenic waves in the corona and in the solar wind, compressible MHD instabilities, reconnection in magnetically dominated plasmas. - Physics of Quark-Gluon Plasma, relativistic hydro and MHD codes with dissipation, application to the physics of heavy-ion collisions.
