I am interested in food safety, food microbiology, and infectious diseases. I have experience working with Salmonella and Campylobacter, as well as other bacteria (i.e., Bacillus, Listeria, E. coli, Neisseria meningitidis, and Haemophilus influenzae). For my Ph.D., I worked on the characterization, virulence, and pathogenicity of Salmonella (as well as other foodborne pathogens) During my postdoc, I used molecular techniques to study the epidemiology of Salmonella and Campylobacter (and other pathogens such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium) isolated from animal hosts (i.e., wildlife, cattle, and dogs). Currently, I work in the Meningitis and Vaccine Preventable Diseases Branch, Division of Bacterial Diseases at the CDC.
