I graduated in chemistry and completed a PhD in organic synthesis of natural products at the University of São Paulo. During my doctoral studies, I synthesized the natural product bakkenolide A, by using the Diels-Alder reactions as a key step. Subsequently, I did two post-docs and started my career at Federal University of ABC (2009-2010). Since 2010 I got a position at the Department of Chemistry at Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), and nowadays I am an associate professor which is equivalent to tenured professor. I received two awards that were given due to the distinguished performance during graduation “Lavoisier Award of the Board of Chemistry in 2001” and “Distinguished student of the University of São Paulo in 2001”. My research group is devoted to developing two main research lines: i) the synthesis of heterocycles with potential photosensitizing activities, namely porphyrins, phthalocyanines and natural photosensitizer derivatives, to be employed in photodynamic therapy (PDT) treatments and ii) Photocatalysis and Organic Synthesis under continuous flow conditions. Recently, I have been at Florida State University – USA under the guidance of Prof. Tyler McQuade for a short period time as an invited professor/late post-doc in Continuous Flow Photochemistry (07/2015 to 12/2015)
