Cindy Kenis

Cindy Kenis is a registered nurse and has achieved her Bachelor degree in Nursing at the College of Nursing in Leuven, Belgium (1999-2002). Afterwards, she has accomplished her Master in Nursing Science (2002-2005), finished her Academic Teacher Education in Medical-Social Health Sciences in 2007 and did her PhD in Biomedical Sciences (2013-2015), all at the KU Leuven, Belgium. In 2005 she started working as a nurse at the University Hospitals of Leuven (UH Leuven) where she currently works as a clinical nurse specialist in geriatric oncology. As CNS geriatric oncology she has the goal to optimize the care for older patients with cancer, in collaboration with internal and external partners, by the elaboration and implementation of innovative research projects (national & international) and the further expansion of the geriatric oncology program in UH Leuven. She is affiliated as an external scientific collaborator with the Academic Center of Nursing and Midwifery at the Catholic University of Leuven (ACCENT VV, KU Leuven Belgium,). Her main areas of research are: the implementation of comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) in the care for older patients with cancer with focus on the adherence to geriatric recommendations and integration of geriatric interventions with the care plan, and the development of (international) guidelines to improve care within this specific patient population. Her PhD dissertation was completely dedicated to geriatric screening and assessment in older patients with cancer.
