Prof. K.R. Sridhar earned M.Sc. and Ph.D. in degrees in Biosciences from the University of
Mysore and Mangalore University, respectively.He teaches Microbiology, Microbial Ecology,
Microbial Biotechnology and Environmental Biotechnology. He was a post-doctoral fellow in
Mount Allison University, Canada under the National Science and Engineering Research
Council (NCERC) during 1991-92 followed by many short visits and carried out research on the
ecology, physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology of freshwater fungi. He visited
different institutes in Germany, Portugal and Thailand on research collaboration. He has active
collaboration with Mount Allison University (Canada), Helmholtz Centre for Environmental
Research (Germany), University of Braga (Portugal) and King Mongkut’s Institute of
Technology, Thailand.
He has research contribution in three areas or research: aquatic (fresh, mangrove and
marine) mycology, nutritional and nutraceutical properties of coastal wild legumes and diversity
and distribution of endemic pill-millipedes in the Western Ghats. He has handled major and
minor research projects funded by the University Grants Commission, Department of Ocean
Development, Department of Environment and Forests, Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences
and Nuclear Power Corporation of India.He has edited four books mainly on Aquatic Sciences.
He has published about 300 research papers in leading national and international journals on
Mycology, Food Science, Nutrition and Biodiversity. He is one of editors/senior editors/in
editorial board of the Journal of Agricultural Technology (Thailand), Mycology (Taylor and
Francis) and Mycosphere (New Zealand). He is a life member of National Institute of Ecology
(New Delhi), Association of Microbiologists of India and Mycological Society of India.He holds
Shome Memorial Award from the Mycological Society of India during 2004 for his contribution
to the field of Aquatic Mycology in India. Five M.Phil.and 20 Ph.D. degrees are awarded under
his guidance.
