个人简介
Karin Fieten (PhD, MSc, MSc cum laude, BSc) has been studying the role of the alpine climate in the development and treatment of allergies, atopic dermatitis and asthma for more than a decade.
Her main research interests are the current role and possibilities of treatment for atopic disease in the alpine climate environment. The DAVOS trial is the only randomized trial so far that studied the effectiveness of alpine climate treatment for children with difficult to treat atopic dermatitis. As a post-doctoral researcher she studied the development of allergies in children growing up in different environments (alpine, rural, city).
She obtained her BSc in Biology at Wageningen University, the Netherlands and her MSc in Science Communication in Utrecht University, the Netherlands. Her master thesis concerned pesticide exposure and respiratory health of indigenous women in Costa Rica, which started her interest in Epidemiology and led her to obtain a post graduate MSc in Clinical Epidemiology. She obtained her PhD at Utrecht University with her thesis titled Complex care for complex eczema in children, focusing on difficult to treat atopic dermatitis and the role of treatment in the alpine climate.
She is currently leading several projects regarding the treatment of severe asthma in the alpine climate and the use of ehealth in sustaining asthma control.
