Epidemiological concepts and tools are critical components to generate evidence-based interventions, plans and policies, with the hope to reduce public health burden in a cost-effective approach. The occurrence of infectious disease is unpredictable but is likely imminent when we least expected. The “all-hazard” and “whole-of-society” approaches are key attributes towards developing an evidence-based pandemic preparedness plan and strategies to reduce the impact of any pandemics that arise. A well-established biosurveillance system is important to serve as early warning alerts for prompt responses to reduce the severity of any outbreak. Knowledge, attitude and practices of our population-at-risk cannot be neglected and should be evaluated and strengthened constantly as these influence social behaviors towards public health campaign and interventions that can reduce the burden due to infectious diseases.

Epidemiologists are not just researcher, but usually also a teacher, an advocate for a cause and a leader who walks the ground with their passion for the welfare of the global community. I am a father of three, a triathlete and a global community leader.
