Juliana Afonso

I have a Full degree and a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences at Centro Universitário Central Paulista (UNICEP, São Carlos, Brazil) and Master and Doctorate Degree in Evolutionary Genetics and Molecular Biology, area of ​​concentration: Genetics and Evolution, by the Graduate Program in Evolutionary Genetics and Molecular Biology, Federal University of São Carlos - UFSCAR. In the master's degree (with CNPq scholarship) and scientific initiation (with FAPESP scholarship), I worked with the Evolutionary Genetics of bee populations and participate in extension courses in Laboratory Quality and Analysis of RNA-seq. I was a professor of sciences in the municipal teaching network of the municipality of Itirapina - SP, Brazil and an industrial laboratory technique in the company Fazenda da Toca - organic, also in the municipality of Itirapina - SP. My Ph.D. project was with Bovine Breeding Genetics in partnership with EMBRAPA - Pecuária Sudeste and had as a goal to discover genes and regulatory regions involved in the maintenance of the mineral homeostasis of Nellore beef muscle. I had a post-doc position for one year (2020) at ESALQ/USP, Piracicaba, São Paulo, Brazil, working with Bovine Biotechnology and Bioinformatics with a focus on co-expression approaches, eQTL identification and cattle production traits. I have a post-doc position at EMBRAPA Pecuária Sudeste, São Carlos, São Paulo, Brazil, working with prediction of genes affected by the histone modification H3K27me3 and associated to muscle mineral concentration and meat quality-related traits in Nelore cattle. Currently, I am doing an internship at The University of Queensland (Brisbane, Queensland, Australia) on the lab of Dr. Marina Fortes, working on the link between histone modifications and phenotypes.
