个人简介
I have been in the world of research for more than 30 years. At first I worked on issues of social organization. My first article in an international journal (Condor) was published in 1984. My thesis (1989) was the first published in article format at the University of Barcelona, with a total of 10 papers (Anim.Behav., Behav. Ecol. Sociobiol., Ethol., Ornis Scand., J. Avian Biol.). It was directed by Dr. N. Metcalfe, from Glasgow Univ., where I made several stays. To better understand patterns of social organization, I became interested in plumage coloration and social status signalling, which led to a whole series of articles on the subject (e.g. PRSL, Anim. Behav, Mathe. Biosc., Auk, Ibis). In 2006, I published the chapter on status sinalling to Harvard Univ.Press's leading book on plumage colouration. At the same time, I became interested in population dynamics and capture / recapture, since this methodology allowed measuring fitness through survival. My first international article on the subject was published in Bird Study (1990), and I soon came into contact with Dr. Mike Conroy, Univ. Georgia, with whom I have published a large number of articles on the subject. In 2003 I was President of the EURING Congress in Germany, and in 2017 I was the Local Chair of EURING in Barcelona. The study of plumage colour led me to the topic of sexual selection, publishing a good number of works (e.g. PRSL, Anim.Beh, Naturw., Oikos, PlosONE, Biol. Lett.). In recent years I have been working on the topic of Contemporary Evolution in species subject to Global Change, since this change of anthropogenetic origin accelerates the rates of evolution, thus being an ideal setting to study Contemporary Evolution and Local Adaptation. I focus mainly on three scenarios. 1). Climate Change, studying mainly how it affects Crossbills and Citril finches in the Pyrenees and how they adapt to this change (Biol.Lett., J.Evol.Biol., Ecol.Evol.). 2). Urbanization, showing for example that urban tits are genetically and epigenetically different from their forest companions (Biol. J. Linnean Soc., Epigenetics), and that they are subject to different selection pressures (Ecol.Evol., Science Total Environ., Evol. Ecol.). This line of research has benefited from my continued work with Mats Börklund (Uppsala Univ.). And 3). The Alien Invasive Species scenario, showing for example that the urban environment also seems to have selected a type of parrots with greater invasive capacities (Mol. Ecol.) or that the morphology differs from the source populations, presumably by selection processes (Biol. Invs.). I have also studied dispersal patterns and genetic structure (Mol. Ecol.). I have recently written a chapter in the book on parrots published by Princeton Univ. Press. This line of research has benefited from my recent work with Ben Hatchwell (Sheffield Univ.), where we have cosupervised a PhD student.
