I am currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Animal Biology in Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa. I am also a member of the Research Group “Adaptation Biology & Ecological Processes” in CESAM-Ciências (Centre for Environmental and marine Studies, in Faculdade de Ciências, Universidade de Lisboa). I carried out my PhD studies (concluded in 1998) in the University of Glasow (Scotland, UK), focused on foraging ecology of seabirds in the Portuguese Atlantic, including Portugal mainland, Madeira and Açores. In 2000, I started a pos-doc research at the Department of Animal Biology, Faculty of Sciencies of the University of Lisbon, dealing with distribution ecology and conservation of shorebirds in estuarine ecosystems. In 2006 I moved to the Natural History Museum of Lisbon University, keeping most of my research subject and restarting my research with shorebirds and seabirds. In 2013 I started working in the Department of Animal Biology, Faculty of Sciences, in the University of Lisbon, up until present. In September 2020 I obtained the Habilitation (Agregação) title at the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa. My main research interests deal with: birds as monitors of environmental change, animal distribution modeling, behavioral and foraging ecology of shorebirds and seabirds, ecology and demography of long-lived vertebrates. I have been involved in several national and international project (14 overall), being PI or co-PI of most of them. My publication record currently includes more than 170 publications in peer-reviewed journals. Up to 2022, I have been responsible for the supervision (or co-supervision) of 5 pos-docs (3 concluded), 14 PhD students (7 of which concluded) and over 15 Msc and first-degree students.
