Myocardial infarction is the most common cause of death in Sweden and the rest of the Western world. Factors linked to heredity and lifestyle are behind the atherosclerotic plaques that form in the walls of the coronary arteries. If the plaque ruptures, a blood clot occurs, the blood flow is restricted, and the patient has a heart attack. With my research, I want to contribute to fewer people getting a heart attack and to better heart function in those who have suffered an acute heart attack.
