Head of Influenza and Newcastle Disease Research at the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA), and Deputy Director of the WOAH/FAO International Reference Laboratory for Animal Influenza and Newcastle Disease. Joe is also an honorary lecturer at Imperial College London. Joe leads influenza and Newcastle disease virus research at the APHA, improving our understanding of the epidemiology, immune evasion, evolution, virulence and transmissibility of these viruses in animals and as zoonoses.
