Jinyu Shan currently serves as a Research Fellow at the University of Leicester and as the Chief Scientific Officer at Phelix Research and Development. He holds a PhD in Molecular Microbiology from the University of Warwick, an MSc in Life Sciences from Nankai University, and a BSc in Life Sciences from Shandong University, bringing a depth of academic knowledge to his work. He has a wealth of experience in microbiology, cell biology, molecular diagnostics, and assay development within regulated environments. His expertise has been crucial in his roles as Chief Scientist at Marker Diagnostics, Associate Principal Scientist at the Rosalind Franklin Laboratory, and Deputy Lab Manager at Cignpost Diagnostics. As the principal inventor of a diagnostic patent for Lyme disease, he has successfully led collaborations across academia and commerce, making significant advancements in patent filing and licensing agreements. His research interests span from the use of bacteriophages as therapeutic and diagnostic agents, bacteriophage-human cell interactions, molecular diagnostics for bacterial infections such as Lyme disease, to the implementation of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Quality Management System (QMS). He serves on the editorial board for 'PHAGE Therapy, Applications, and Research' and has contributed numerous scientific publications as a primary and corresponding author. He has also served as a judge for the LymeX diagnostics prize competition and maintains an active presence in various professional societies and conferences.
