Jeroen P. Kooman was born in 1966. He received the M.Sc. and M.D. (cum laude) degrees in medical training and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Maastricht in 1990 and 1992, respectively. He has been a Professor with the Division of Nephrology, Department of Internal Medicine, Maastricht University Medical Centre, where he is also a consultant Nephrologist since 1998. He was trained in internal medicine and nephrology at the Maxima Medical Centre (formerly St. Joseph Hospital) and the University Hospital Maastricht. During this period, he was also a Guest Scientist with the Department of Baxter Novum, Karolinska Institute. He has been a working member and chair of various national and international guideline committees (Dutch Federation Nephrology, ERA-EDTA, ISBP). He was a member of the Scientific Council of the Dutch Kidney Foundation (DKF) and serves as an Advisor for the NeoKidney Foundation and the DKF in the development of a wearable artificial kidney. He was the Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the MUMC until 2015.
