Janina Tutkuviene

Janina Tutkuviene is a doctor, anatomist and anthropologist, Head of the Department of Anatomy, Histology and Anthropology, Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Vilnius University, Faculty of Medicine (PhD in 1990, Habilitation procedure in 2007). From the year 2022 she is also the Head of the Doctoral School of Medicine and Health Sciences at Vilnius University. Her research interests include a broad interdisciplinary field, encompassing physical anthropology, clinical auxology, reproductive biology, human adaptation and ecology, and evolutionary medicine. She has developed growth guidelines and charts for Lithuanian children. Her current research interests include growth and maturation in children, growth programming, physical status associated with a variety of clinical pathologies, differences in body size and maturation worldwide, secular trend, body image and attractiveness, head and face morphology, morphological and functional asymmetry of the body. Professor has published (together with co-authors) over 200 publications (including more than 40 articles in CA WoS database, also PubMed and others, chapters at the monographies, textbooks, also popular science publications). She has given numerous scientific presentations or keynote lectures at the Universities in various European and US countries (over 110 international presentations and invited lectures over the last 10 y.) . Professor was the supervisor or consultant of 12 doctoral students and currently she supervises five doctoral theses. The professor has participated in several EC projects (STOP-II, AGIS, ISEC, Leonardo da Vinci, HORIZON 2020, Alliance4Life). She is an active member of many international scientific societies: council member of the European Anthropological Association (EAA); member of the International Association of Human Biologists; member of the Society for Study of Human Biology (SSHB); member of the International Auxological Society; member of the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES); one of the chief-editors of the journals Anthropologischer Anzeiger and HOMO. Professor has a broad collaboration with scientists from many countries (Austria, Croatia, Germany, Latvia, Poland, Switzerland, UK, US and the others).
