His clinical and clinical research interests have been largely in Immune ThrombocytoPenia (ITP) and Fetal and Neonatal Alloimmune Thrombocytopenia (FNAIT). He has published over 400 manuscripts predominantly in these areas. Six are first or second authored in the New England Journal of Medicine. In 2012 with Dr Richard Berkowitz he shared the King Faisal International Prize for Medicine (the so-called Arab Nobel Prize) for their work in non-invasive management of FNAIT. Dr Bussel has participated in the first ASH ITP guideline development and in the Consensus manuscript. He has been a reviewer for multiple journals, an ad hoc reviewer for the NIH, and an abstract reviewer for ASH and EHA. His wife’s family is from England.
