He is member of the Editorial Board of Journal of Neurochemistry, Biochemical Journal, the Neurochemical Research, Brain Metabolic Disease, and Synapse. He received the Marie Curie Excellence Award in 2005 from the European Commission, and the Editor of the Year Awards (2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 editions) from the Biochemical Journal. He was the President of the European Society for Neurochemistry (ESN; 2011-2013) and coordinator of the Molecular Neurobiology Group of the Spanish Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (2007-2010).
