Jun Chen

Prof. Chen obtained her MBBS from the Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) School of Medicine in 1990. She completed her clinical fellowship and PhD research programs in Ocular Immunology and Uveitis from the University of Tokyo in 1999, followed by a 4-year post-doctoral research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She served as the Senior Scientist at the NIH afterwards. In 2013, Prof. Chen was appointed as the Professor and the Director of the Public Laboratory in State Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology at the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, SYSU. The academic interests of Prof. Chen focus on understanding mechanisms of pathogenesis of autoimmune eye diseases as well as developing novel immunotherapy for these diseases. Prof. Chen’s work established various animal models of uveitis, identified modulatory roles for chemokine receptor CXCR3-interferon I/II signaling in inflammatory eye diseases, and developed autoantigen-specific Treg cell-based therapy to the eyes. Prof. Chen is currently an editorial board member of Current Molecular Medicine, Comparative Immunology Microbiology & Infectious Diseases and Japanese Journal of Ophthalmology. She serves as reviewers of journals, e.g. PNAS, Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, Ocular Immunology and Inflammation, Comparative Immunology Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, Molecular Vision, BMC Ophthalmology. She is also an active member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), American Association of Immunologists (AAI), International Cytokine & Interferon Society (ICIS), Chinese Society for Immunology (CSI) and Chinese Ophthalmological Society (COS).
