José Lópezpérez

José A. López-Pérez was born in Martos (Jaén), Spain, in 1971. He received the Telecommunication Engineer degree and the Ph.D. degree in telecommunication engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), Madrid, Spain, in 1996 and 2012, respectively. After six months working for the Radiation Group of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), he joined the Institute de Radio Astronomie Millimétrique (IRAM), Grenoble, France, for two years. There, he worked in the field of microwave antenna holography with D. Morris in the IRAM 30 m radiotelescope holography campaigns during 1998, 1999, and 2000. In addition, he worked at the Backends Group of IRAM, under the supervision of M. Torres, in the design and construction of electronic circuits for the six antenna IRAM Plateau de Bure Interferometer correlator. After that, he joined the staff of the Centro Astronómico de Yebes (CAY) in Spain. There, he was involved in the construction of the 40 m radiotelescope. He has been responsible for the design and construction of the holography receiver system for the characterization and optimization of the 40 m radiotelescope surface. In 2001, he led the construction of the digital autocorrelator spectrometer based in IRAM correlator boards. In 2002, he worked in a feasibility study of a holography measurement system for the European Space Agency (ESA) ground antennas for deep space. In 2003, he joined the ALMA Antenna Evaluation Working Group (AEWG) and worked in the holographic surface evaluation of the 12 m ALMA antenna prototypes in Socorro (NM, USA). In 2004 he collaborated with Spanish company INDRA and the European Space Operation Center (ESOC) in the development of a holography system for the ESA Deep Space Antenna (DSA) system. He has been the project manager in the construction of low noise cryogenic receivers in X-band, C-band and Q-band for the 40 m radiotelescope for Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) and the tri-band S/X/Ka receiver for geodetic VLBI to be installed in the next 13.2 m RAEGE radiotelescope. He is responsible for the monitoring of radio-frequency interferences in Centro Astronómico de Yebes. He has performed RFI surveys in Azores and Canary islands for the selection of the optimum location of the 13.2 m RAEGE project antennas. He is collaborating with the Italian Instituto Nazionale di Astrofisica in the holography measurements of the 32 m and 64 m radiotelescopes in Bolonia and Sardinia, respectively, and with the IRAM institute for a new holography measurement campaign on the 30 m radiotelescope. His main research interests are microwave holography of large reflector antennas, radioastronomy receiver design and development and RFI.
