Career Trajectory
Bio
My name is Iris Ramos Hernández, I am graduated in Biotechnology at the University of Salamanca (Spain), 2014-2018, with an average score of 8.44 about 10. During my undergraduate studies, I have fulfilled curricular internships leaded by Dr. Juan Manuel Lara Pradas at the Institute of Neurosciences of Castilla y León (INCyL). After that, I carried out an experimental degree thesis leaded by Dra. Almudena Velasco Arranz at INCyL named "Study of the corneal immunological population in a murine model with GvHD and its treatment with stromal mesenchymal cells".
In addition, I have a Master's degree in "Research and Advances in Molecular and Cellular Immunology" from the University of Granada, with an average score of 8.78. I did my experimental master thesis project at the Pfizer Center-University of Granada- Junta de Andalucía de Genomics and Oncological Research (GENYO) under the supervision of Dr. Francisco Martín Molina. This project entitled "Optimization of the delivery method for in vitro T-cell knock-in with the CRISPR-Cas9 system" was focused on the fine-tuning of CRISPR /Cas9 T-cell editing process for the future generation of universal T-CARs.
Subsequently, I joined as a laboratory technician for three months in this same group, focusing my efforts on a Pompe Disease. At 2020 I obtained a PFIS grant to do my Ph.D thesis also headed by Dr. Francisco Martín Molina and Dr. Francisco Javier Molina Estévez, with the ISCIII as the funding body. The objective of my thesis is to develop in-vivo and ex-vivo gene therapy strategies to treat Pompe disease, a rare lysosomal monogenic disease in which GAA protein is badly affected. We have focus on the search of myeloid-specific locus to edit, in which express an optimized form of GAA; and the optimization of the genome editing techniques to achieve greater levels of the GAA protein in target tissues as skeletal muscle and brain.
Thanks to these opportunities to learn and work in the laboratory, I have experience working with primary and immortalized cells and its derivates, various molecular biology techniques, from immunohistochemistry to cloning, and flow cytometry, as well as in-vitro gene edition, and lab-management.
On the other hand, I have a certificate in training for researchers that qualifies for the functions of caring for experimental animals, euthanasia and carrying out procedures A, B and C, as well as a diploma of Good Laboratory Practices course accredited by the Secretariat General for Research, Development and Innovation in Health of the Ministry of Health and Families of the Junta de Andalucía.
Regarding my personal skills, I have a level close to C1 in English thanks to several experiences abroad in San Diego (California) and Londonderry (Ireland), between 2009 and 2013. It should be noted that I have a great capacity for planning and organization, problem solving, adaptation and teamwork skills. In addition, I have certificates of attendance at the 9th and 10th Annual Congress of Biotechnology of FEBiotec, and present my work at the ESGCT 2021, II Congreso Investigación PTS, 11th Biennial Congress of the Sociedad Española de Terapia Génica y Celular, in which I was awarded for best poster presentation; and I also participated at the VII to IX edition of the Conference of Genomic and Oncological Medicine of GENYO, in which I obtained an award for best "flask-talk" category Master Project Thesis. I also started the promotion of our laboratory group social media, working as community manager by the divulgation of our activities and advances on related groups of interest for our community.
I consider myself a competent user both in information processing, communication, content creation, security and problem solving. In addition, I have a basic training in GraphPad Prism, Vector NTI, BD FACSDIVA, FlowJo and Photoshop C5S Extended.
