Research interests
The USS Centro di Terapia Cellulare “G.Lanzani” belongs to the Azienda Ospedaliera Papa Giovanni XXIII, Bergamo and is an authorised Cell Factory for the preparation of Advanced Therapeutic Medicinal Productes (ATMP). Two main somatic cells are the center of our interest: Cytokine Induced Killer (CIK) lymhocytes with anti tumoral cytotoxic activity and the Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSC) derived either from Bone Marrow or from Umbilical Cord used for their immunosuppressive role in vivo. 6 different phase I/II clinical trials are conducted at the moment with cells prepared in this Cell Factory to treat leukemia patients relapsed following allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (CIK cells), or steroid resistant severe grade III/IV acute Graft Versus Host Diseases (aGVHD) in bone marrow transplanted patients (MSC).
