After 20 years in academia and clinical practice, my current role at AstraZeneca allows me to impact breast and gynecological cancers care in a much larger scale, to promote paradigm-shifting and practice-changing treatments to decrease breast and gynecological cancers mortality, morbidity, and health disparities. Ultimately, I aim to improve optimal care in breast and gynecological cancers in a way that is responsive to patients’ needs and addresses the most important knowledge gaps in the breast and gynecological cancers medical field. My overarching vision is to move the needle in breast and gynecological cancers mortality in the most impactful possibly way, by pioneering and expanding novel translational global research and innovative clinical trial development that will augment and accelerate the approval of established and novel drugs in the key areas of excellence at AstraZeneca: tumor resistance/ targeted therapies, DNA damage response, antibody-drug conjugates, and immune-oncology. In my current role, I am responsible for organizing and leading strategic planning efforts, decision-making and initiatives aimed at defining and developing the ongoing and future directions of breast and gynecological cancers, and identifying pathways and resources for the team to foster growth over time, by seeking and establishing research partnerships internally and externally, that will enhance the program’s translational and clinical research efforts.
