My area of research is focused on the diversity, distribution, and phylogeny of freshwater ascomycete fungi. I work on isolating and describing these fungi, which contributes to understanding the origins and diversity of this important ecological group. My research findings have implications for biodiversity studies, as well as phylogenetics and taxonomic studies of the fungi kingdom. I collaborate with natural product chemists to investigate the chemical mycology of freshwater fungi
