I study how neural activity and architectures lead to perception, cognition, and action. My methodology involves building artificial neural networks inspired by biology that are trained to perform impressive perceptual and cognitive tasks. By using the tools of psychology and neuroscience to probe how these networks work, I generate hypotheses for how such behavior could arise from real neural systems. I am also interested in using these networks to develop and test new tools for studying brains. Specific topic areas I am pursuing include visual attention, perceptual learning, and multi-sensory integration.
