Career Trajectory
Bio
Gianvito Lanave was born in Bari on May 10th 1986. Following the conclusion of the High School in 2004, he started his graduation in the Bachelor Degree in Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Biotechnologies at the University of Bari, obtaining his degree in 2008 with final grade of 110/110. In 2008 he started his graduation in the Masters Degree in Medical Biotechnologies and Molecular Medicine at the University of Bari, obtaining his degree in 2011 with final grade of 110/110. On March 2012 he started a Postgraduate Course in Molecular epidemiology and Bioinformatic techniques applied to Infectious Diseases in the Associazione Biologi Ambientalisti Pugliesi (A.B.A.P) in Bari obtaining his degree in July 2013. On January 2013, he started his PhD on Animal Health and Zoonoses at University Bari, under the supervision of Prof Vito Martella obtaining the phD degree on 9th May 2016 with the Phd thesis titled "Virus discovery: integrated approach for the identification of enteric viruses in humans and animals". In 2013 he served a three months internship (started on 29 March 2013 until 03 July 2013) on molecular protocols for the study of virus genome using next generation sequencing (NGS) and on bio-informatic tools for analysis of NGS data in the Institute for Veterinary Medical Research, Centre for Agricultural Research, Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA-ATK-AOTI) under the supervision of Dr Krisztián Bányai. In 2015 he served a 2 weeks internship (started on 9 November until 20 November)for NGS data analysis and use of terminal-based methods for mapping and assembly of sequence data with reference-guided and de novo approaches in the Department of Veterinary Science University of Studies of Torino under the supervision of Prof Luigi Bertolotti.
Research activities of Dr. Lanave are focused on different topics of human and animal microbiology. In this field, he worked on the molecular characterization, epidemiological aspects and genetic and phylogenetic analysis of animal pathogens, framing those with emerging zoonotic impact. Part of the research activities of Dr Lanave are dedicated to the study of enteric viruses of medical and veterinary concern (Caliciviruses, Pestiviruses, Parvoviruses, Circoviruses, Astroviruses, Coronaviruses, and Hepaciviruses ). Dr. Lanave has been employed in lecturers on Statistics, Molecular Biology Applied to Infectious Diseases, Diagnostics in Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology at the University of Bari.
To date he authored and co-authored 26 scientific articles published in peer reviewed international journals and 23 abstracts and oral presentations at international and national conferences. On 9th June 2017 he has been awarded with the Best Oral Presentation Award at the 18th WAVLD - International Symposium of the World Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians held in Sorrento for the oral presentation : “Identification of a novel parvovirus related to primate bufaviruses and associated with CIRD in dogs”
