He is an expert in affective computing, computer vision, human-robot interaction, graphical models, virtual and augmented reality and artificial intelligence. He is the Associate Editor of the Journal of Signal, Image and Video Processing, Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, Entropy and Information. He is the topic Editor of Frontiers in Biotechnology and Bioengineering. He has supervised over 15 MSc students and 7 PhD students. He has published over 130 scientific works. He has been in the organizing committee and technical committee of the IEEE SIU Conference in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 and SampTA2017 and TCP of conferences such as ICOSST, ICGIP and SIU. He is organizing challenges and workshops in FG2017, CVPR2017, ICCV2017, ECML2019 and FG2020. He is also a leading guest editor of special issues in the EURASIP Journal on Image and Video Processing, Machine Vision and Application, and Entropy.
