Professor Geoff Rose is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering. Geoff has been as staff member at Monash for 28 years and for more than half that time he was the Director of the Monash Institute of Transport Studies. During that period he oversaw the development and delivery of Australia’s first on-line Master of Transport and Traffic degree which contributed to the professional development of staff in many transport agencies and consulting firms around Australia. Geoff’s teaching focussed on transport planning and through units he taught at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels he helped many students begin their journey on careers in the transport and traffic industry. Geoff secured funding under the Federal Government’s New Colombo Plan to support a group of undergraduate students to travel to Asia and study transport systems in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai and Suzhou. Geoff’s research interests cover cycling, walking, travel demand management and sustainable transport policy. Geoff’s recent research has focused on enhancing understanding of usage patterns and policy issues associated with motorized mobility scooters, electric bicycles and motorcycles as well as understanding the factors influencing the demand for car sharing. He is currently supervising research on factors influencing commuters decisions to access railway stations by bicycle
