Research interests
The breadth of Dr Figtree's research program spans from discovery of fundamental mechanisms and drug targets to precision medicine, clinical trials and implementation. The syndergy that this program of work has with her clinical job as an interventional cardiologist enables her to lead unique approaches to tackling cardiovascular disease. She is passionate about bringing together the future leaders of cardiovascular research from a diverse range of backgrounds to tackle the clinical problem.

Specific clinical questions that are the focus of the Figtree team's work include:
1. Mechanisms of coronary atherosclerosis in patients with no standard modifiable risk factors;
2. New blood biomarkers to detect early atherosclerosis and predict risk of heart attack;
3. Novel drug targets that tackle inflammation and oxidative stress in the heart and blood vessel;
4. Integrating advanced cardiovascular imaging, molecular markers and clinical data to predict risk;
5. Clinical trials
