Graham Kerr

I am currently a research associate at the Catholic University of America, contracting at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, funded through several NASA ROSES grants including an Early Career Investigator Award of which I am PI. Prior to this position I was a NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) Fellow, working with Dr. Joel Allred at NASA/GSFC on radiation hydrodynamic simulations of solar flares. My completed my PhD with Prof. Lyndsay Fletcher at the University of Glasgow, with a thesis titled: "Observations and modelling of the chromosphere during solar flares." My research interests are in the area of solar flare physics, particularly in the transport of energy, radiation, and mass through the solar atmosphere during flares. I have expertise of imaging and spectroscopic data analysis, utilising the Hinode, IRIS & SDO satellites. I extensive experience using and developing the radiation hydrodynamics & radiation transfer numerical simulation RADYN, and the radiation transfer code RH, to model physical processes during solar flares, with a focus on understanding the formation of optically thick radiation.
