Giovanni Daniele Rovera (SM) has a degree in electronic engineering from Politecnico di Torino. He began his scientific activity at the Istituto Elettrotecnico Nazionale Galieo Ferraris, Torino, Italy, working on the metastable magnesium beam. frequency standard and on cesium beam frequency standards. After a period spent as consultant in measurements and software, in 1989, he joined the BNM-LPTF in Paris Observatory, now LNE-SYRTE. His research activities include the realization of primary frequency standards and the measure of the frequency of secondary standards in the infrared and visible region. In recent years, he has also been involved in time comparisons and in the realization of time scales.
