Frederico Abecasis David Cardigos is a Marine Biologist with a master degree in Management and Nature Conservation. He is a colaborator at Okeanos R&D Centre of the University of the Azores. He was a research assistant at IMAR - Department of Oceanography and Fisheries of the University of the Azores. In the scope of his work, he studied deep sea and shallow water hydrothermal vents, invasive species, environment characterization, nature conservation, animal behavior and marine instrumentation development. He has done work with several groups of marine species including fish, cephalopods and other invertebrates, algae, marine turtles, marine mammals and birds. He was present in several scientific meetings and workshops, was cruise leader in numerous marine expeditions and has published several scientific papers in peer reviewed magazines. He has cooperated in initiatives for education, including university and technical classes for marine biology themes. He has developed an intense activity for scientific dissemination and marine environmental education publishing articles and writing television programs. For this effort, he was awarded as one of the “hundred names of Portuguese Diving”. He is member of several NGOs. From 2006 to 2013 he was regional director of the Azores Government, Environment (2006-2011), Maritime Affairs (2011-2013) and was director of the Marine Park of the Azores (2011-2013).
