Fred Lacerda AMORIM (51) was granted a Doctorate Diploma (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal University of Santa Catarina - UFSC (Brasil -2002) in cooperation with the RWTH-WZL - Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule - Werkzeugmaschinenlabor Aachen (Germany). Advisor in Brazil: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Walter Weingaertner and Co-Advisor in Germany: Prof. Dr.-Ing., Dr. h.c., Fritz Klocke. In 2010 he was granted a Scholarship in Research Productivity by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq - Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico), Brazil. In 1997 he was assigned assistant professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Pontifical Catholic University of Parana - PUCPR (Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná -PUCPR), Curitiba, Brazil. In 2001 he was designated as head of the Laboratory for Research on Machining Processes (LAUS), and from 2002 a full Professor of the Mechanical Engineering Graduate Program - PPGEM (strico sensu) of PUCPR, acting as supervisor of masters' and Ph.D. research works. He is a scientific referee of more than 10 International Journals and a conference peer reviewer. Since starting his scientific career, he has published more than 100 articles in Scientific Journals and completed works in Conferences. He has been participating as a member of examining boards of candidates for master's and doctorate diplomas in PUCPR and other partner Universities in Brazil. His major research interests are focused on manufacturing processes, particularly in precision machining processes (Conventional and non-conventional processes), developing research projects funded by some Brazilian Governmental Agencies.
