个人简介
Francesco Petruccione received the degree in physics from the University of Freiburg im Breisgau, the Ph.D. degree, in 1988, and the Habilitation (Dr. rer. nat. habil.) degree, in 1994. In 2004, he was appointed as a Professor in theoretical physics with the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), Durban, South Africa. In 2007, he was granted the South African Research Chair for Quantum Information Processing and Communication. He has been the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Big Data and Informatics with UKZN. Currently, he is the Interim Director of the National Institute for Theoretical and Computational Sciences. Since May 2022, he has been a Professor in quantum computing with Stellenbosch University and a Fractional Professor with UKZN. He is an elected member of the Academy of Sciences of South Africa, a fellow of the Royal Society of South Africa, the African Academy of Sciences, and the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He has published more than 250 articles in refereed scientific journals. He is the coauthor of a monograph on The Theory of Open Quantum Systems (more than 10000 citations according to Google Scholar), that was published, in 2002, reprinted as paperback, in 2007, and translated in Russian. In 2018, he published a monograph (with Maria Schuld) on Supervised Learning with Quantum Computers that was already translated into Japanese. He was published Machine Learning with Quantum Computers (Second Extended Edition, 2021). He is an editor of several proceedings volumes and special editions of scientific journals. He is a member of the editorial board of the journals, such as Open Systems and Information Dynamics, Scientific Reports, and Quantum Machine Intelligence.
