Lothar Fickert

Lothar Fickert was born in Germany on January 13, 1949. He studied electrical engineering from the Vienna University of Technology, Vienna, Austria, where he received the Ph.D. degree in 1974. After serving in the Austrian Army he worked in international jobs with ELIN UNION and BROWN BOVERI in the field of power plants and electrical networks. He acquired system operation expertise with WIENSTROM, as a Protection and Utility Systems Engineer. Since 1998, he has been a Full Professor and the Head of the the Institute of Electrical Power Systems, Graz University of Technology, Graz, Austria. In 2017, he became a Professor emeritus and cooperates since then strongly in his field of expertise, protection engineering, with the university. He supervised and co-supervised 49 PhD theses. Further he authored 220 technical papers, holds nine patents and several honors and awards. His main research interests include efficient use of electrical energy, energy quality, security of supply, generation, transmission, and distribution of electrical energy. Dr. Fickert’s national and international activities comprise participation in CENELEC, IEC, CIGRE, and CIRED organizations and committees.
