Florian Weinberger

As a trained botanist and microbiologist, I have been involved in projects on physiological, biochemical and molecular biological aspects of the ecology, aquaculture and utilization of algae and aquatic plants since 1990. Since March 2013, I have been leading the research group "Pathology and Biogenic Stress Biology of Marine Macrophytes" (see https://www.geomar.de/en/researchgroup-fweinberger) at the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research in Kiel, Germany. My research focuses on the management of marine macrophytes, both in nature and in aquaculture, considering the ecological interactions of seaweeds and seagrasses with pathogens, symbionts, epibionts, consumers and competitors, their dynamics and their molecular basis. Another focus of my research activities is on the ecology of nuisance algae and on the eco-evolutionary implications of algal invasions.
