Elsa Carla De Grandi received a PhD in Remote Sensing (Atmospheric & Environmental Science programme) University of Edinburgh in 2017 (supervisors: Dr Edward Mitchard and Prof Iain Woodhouse). Her PhD focused on developing and testing novel SAR and InSAR methods for mapping deforestation, forest degradation and re-growth in tropical forests. Her work targeted sites in Cameroon, the Republic of Congo and Borneo. During her PhD she was a co-investigator of a project related to forest degradation mapping in the Republic of Congo, Indonesia and Tanzania awarded by the German Aerospace Agency (DLR) (Principal Investigator: Dr Edward Mitchard, University of Edinburgh) and a European Space Agency supported project in Cameroon (principal investigator). She was also a co-investigator during a DLR AO in 2013 focusing on Australian woodlands and forests (supervised by Prof Richard Lucas- Aberystwyth University) and collaborated on work in the Republic of Congo with the Joint Research Center of the European Commission.
