Bio
Egbert Figgemeier received the Ph.D. degree in chemistry from the University of Paderborn, Paderborn, Germany, in 1998.
This was followed by academic research at University College Dublin, Dublin, Ireland, the University of Basel, Basel, Switzerland, and the University of Uppsala, Uppsala, Sweden. In 2007, he joined Bayer Technology Services, Leverkusen, Germany, heading the Materials and Corrosion Lab and the development of materials for battery applications. Since 2012, he has been an Application Development Engineer for battery materials with 3M Deutschland, Neuss, Germany, responsible for technical support of customers in Germany and Europe. His focus in battery materials was negative electrode materials of the next generation and assembly materials for battery backs and modules. Since 2016, he has been the Group Leader with the Helmholtz Institute Münster, Forschungszentrum Jülich (Section Aachen), Münster, Germany. He also holds the Chair for “Ageing and Reliability of Batteries” at RWTH Aachen University, Aachen, Germany. His current research activities span from fundamental aging mechanisms in lithium-ion and lithium metal batteries to the development of electrolyte additives and prelithiation technologies.
