Daniel de Backer (born on December 28, 1961, in Brussels) specialized in intensive care medicine. His main fields of investigation are sepsis, organ dysfunction and support, circulatory failure, hemodynamic monitoring (including echocardiography), hepato-splanchnic circulation, and microcirculatory disorders. Daniel De Backer has signed more than 250 original articles, serves as a reviewer for 30 journals, and is Associate Editor of several journals including “Critical Care” and “Annals of Intensive Care”. Daniel De Backer is President of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine.
