How do the biophysical properties of a neuron contribute to overall circuit function? How are these properties maintained during environmental changes such as shifting temperature and pH? These are the types of questions that excite my research interests. As the field of neuroscience delivers a more complete picture of how neurons are connected within a circuit it becomes more and more important to understand how these circuits function in the absence and presence of environmental stress. I am interested in what cellular intrinsic properties lead to neuronal circuit robustness, and what roles homeostasis and neuromodulation play in maintaining functional circuit activity.
