David Newman

My specialist area is working with adults who have a learning disability and/or autism. I am passionate about achieving the highest possible person-centred care for service users. I believe in utilising the therapeutic alliance to develop collaborative, trauma informed and strengths-based solutions. I am an advocate of system wide engagement and involvement. Community networks are an essential element in co-producing services that are inclusive and celebrate the richness that diversity brings to all. I value service leadership that promotes a culture of intelligent kindness and evidence led processes taking account of outcomes and the experience of people. This is reflected in my research interests that encompass systems of governance, psychotherapy outcomes and process and quality of life approaches such as Positive Behaviour Support. I am an Honorary Lecturer for the University of Sheffield where I lecture and supervise trainee Clinical Psychologists and undertake research initiatives.
