个人简介
I am a postdoctoral fellow (Juan de la Cierva-Incorporación) at the University of Valencia and INCLIVA Biomedical Research Institute. My current main research interests are sex differences in cardiovascular biology and the understanding of the role of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) in cardiometabolic diseases. Since 2021, I have been focusing on the sex- and estrogen-dependent regulation of miRNAs in acute coronary syndrome. In addition, I have recently been the beneficiary of a grant in the Generalitat Valenciana calls for Emerging groups.
Prior to my current appointment, I was postdoctoral fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and Harvard Medical School (HMS) in Boston under the supervision of Prof. Mark W. Feinberg (2018-2021). My research at BWH/HMS focuses on the influence of miRNAs in key pathobiological events observed in cardiovascular diseases, particularly those affecting angiogenic function, but also atherosclerosis and inflammation. I provided new insights into the role of different miRNAs involved in impaired angiogenesis observed in the peripheral artery disease. The project was funded by the Strategically Focused Research Networks (American Heart Association), and I interacted and collaborated with multiple research centers (Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Northwestern University, and University of Florida). In addition, I successfully used a panel of miRNAs to transdifferentiate vascular smooth muscle cells into endothelial cells, which were transcriptionally, phenotypically, and functionally similar to other endothelial cells and suggest that this miRNA-engineered approach may be useful in a range of cardiovascular-based therapies.
In my PhD (2013-2017) I conducted studies focusing on the role of sex hormones in endothelial function with Prof. Carlos Hermenegildo and Susana Novella at University of Valencia. Specifically, I started a research line on the regulation of miRNAs expression profile in endothelial cells exposed to estradiol. In addition, I was Postgraduate Fellow in the Department of Pharmacology at Yale University (Aug-Dec, 2015) under the supervision of Prof. William C. Sessa, where I worked on different approaches to understand novel mechanisms of LDL interaction with the endothelial ALK1 receptor.
I have participated in 8 research projects and co-authored 36 articles in peer-reviewed journals. Additionally, I have presented 70 communications in national and international conferences, and I have received 7 research awards, corresponding to research works and communications. I am member of the journal editorial board, ad-hoc reviewer, and co-editor of a research topic. I have been member of Master and PhD thesis defense committees. I have participated in several outreach events, and I am organizer of a programme to engage Master students into research.
