个人简介
Daniel Moreira Gonçalves (DMG) graduated in Sport and Physical Education (2006) and completed his PhD in Physical Activity and Health (2012) at the Faculty of Sport, University of Porto (FADEUP). Currently, DMG is an assistant professor at FADEUP, where he is involved with teaching in the curricular units of Exercise Physiology, Pathology and Disease in Elderly, Physical Activity in Health and Disease, at the level of master and PhD programs. Regarding its research activities, DMG is involved with both basic and clinical research: i) using animal models of disease (heart failure, pulmonary hypertension and cancer) to understand the mechanisms underlying the benefits of exercise training; ii) identification of molecules with exercise-like effects; iii) optimization of surgical risk tools to identify cancer patients at greater risk of poor postoperative outcomes; iv) development of preoperative interventions with exercise training to prepare cancer patient for surgery; and v) the interaction of exercise training with chemotherapy efficacy. Until the current year, he has published 52 papers in peer reviewed international journals and supervised 34 master (4 ongoing) and 6 PhD (ongoing) students. He is also involved with extension programs, providing evidence-based recommendations to implement, manage and optimize community-based exercise programs, tailored to the requirements of specific populations as cancer survivors and cardiac patients in the maintenance phase.
